ARRIS and CableLabs® DOCSIS® 3.0

At ARRIS we continuously develop and refine our products to be “state-of-the-market” and support our customers with ARRIS Solutions to compete against newcomers and existing competition. One of our customers’ main interests is DOCSIS 3.0.

Beyond DOCSIS 1.1/2.0, there are multiple immediate cost-savings and revenue opportunities that are based on the DOCSIS 3.0 specifications that help cable operators to maintain their competitive edge.  These include, but are not limited to:

  • Higher subscriber downstream and upstream data rates via channel bonding to compete against FTTx
  • IPv6 for expanded IP address space and ease of administration
  • Enhanced security including encryption and authentication capabilities to protect content and service level agreements
  • Enhanced operational capabilities such as Internet Protocol Data Recording (IPDR) to manage traffic and streamline operations
  • Enhancements to capabilities such as multicast, with the benefit of increasing IP video service offerings
  • Lower costs per downstream for CMTS equipment
  • Increased headend density with multiple channels per F-connector
  • Extended downstream spectrum (1Ghz), along with upstream spectrum from 5Mhz to 65Mhz or optionally 85MHz
  • Increased efficiency of available bandwidth to enable new features and technology such as IPTV over DOCSIS

The ARRIS Products and Services Supporting DOCSIS 3.0 are:

  • ARRIS C4® CMTS
The C4 CMTS achieved DOCSIS® 3.0 bronze qualification during the first DOCSIS 3.0 certification wave where downstream channel bonding and IPv4/IPv6 management of cable modems were the primary functions tested. This wave of testing was a milestone, not only for ARRIS, but for the entire cable industry. Investment protection is a significant advantage when upgrading the ARRIS C4 CMTS to DOCSIS 3.0.
  • ARRIS D5™ Universal Edge QAM
The D5 Universal Edge QAM can handle VOD, SDV, and broadcast video simultaneously. The D5 provides flexible multicast support for provisionable sources, with the potential for QAM sharing across multiple delivery mechanisms as subscriber demands increase for High Definition (HD) programming, Video On-Demand (VoD), and high speed data services.
  • Touchstone® E-MTAs (TM700 series)
The Touchstone TM702 continues ARRIS leadership in cable voice technology as one of the first DOCSIS 3.0 Embedded Media Terminal Adaptors (E-MTA) with PacketCable 1.5 compliancy.
  • Touchstone® Cable Modems (WBM700 series)
With the DOCSIS 3.0 certified Touchstone WBM750 Wideband modem, operators can now offer their subscribers unsurpassed levels of performance, functionality, and reliability for channel bonding data services over cable.
  • Assurance Operational Support Systems (ServAssure, ServAssure Policy, WorkAssure)
The DOCSIS 3.0 features reflected in the Assurance Solutions ServAssure platforms will generally include Network Management of new or disaggregated network elements, provisioning of new  DOCSIS 3.0 features and capabilities,  enhanced monitoring capabilities and backwards compatibility for legacy devices. ServAssure™ support for DOCSIS 3.0 is now available.
