AUSPICE® ANNOUNCES REAL-TIME MONITORING AND TESTING SOLUTION FOR DOCSIS HMS TRANSPONDER-ENABLED POWER SUPPLIES

Proactively Monitors Power Supply Performance, Alarms and Events in Real Time

Waltham, MA – January 18, 2006 –Auspice Corporation, the industry’s leading provider of real-time operations automation solutions for communications service providers, today introduced its latest product innovation, Auspice OpsLogic® PowerSense™.  Auspice PowerSense is an automated power supply maintenance, testing, performance power outage event monitoring and reporting solution that uses DOCSIS HMS Transponders to quickly integrate a cable operator’s power supply management with their existing management and trouble ticketing systems. This enables cable operators to detect any outages and proactively monitor power supply performance, alarms and events in real time. PowerSense also utilizes DOCSIS HMS Transponders to test power supplies, and to schedule standard tests as well as on-demand tests of groups of transponders.

“With the majority of their delivery challenges related directly to the health of the HFC plant, cable operators recognize that a key aspect to ensuring Quality of Service is the ability to effectively manage their plant’s power resources,” explains Gary Cunha, Auspice Director of Products. “DOCSIS-based HMS Transponders provide a way for cable operators to do this by monitoring power supplies affecting their HFC plants. PowerSense enhances this ability by providing remote monitoring capabilities via the DOCSIS HMS Transponder to proactively manage the outages, alarms and events that affect the HFC plant’s power supplies.”

Proactive Responses to Most Common HFC Plant Power Monitoring and Reporting Problems

PowerSense enables cable operators to proactively address many of their HFC Plant power monitoring and reporting challenges, including:

  • Providing a common interface for monitoring and testing power supplies with DOCSIS HMS Transponders from major vendors, including AM Communications, Tollgrade, Electroline, and Phoenix Broadband, ensuring Element Management System and DOCSIS HMS Transponder interoperability.
  • Testing the power supply in the event of an AC power failure to ensure there is sufficient voltage, current and duration to operate the HFC plant until AC power is restored or a generator is added to continue operation.  The power supplies can be tested individually or in groups by upstream, node or CMTS.
  • Eliminating the tedious manual process for entering power supplies into a monitoring system. PowerSense has three methods for discovering DOCSIS HMS Transponders on power supplies and then monitors them for outages, switching to batteries, and other events. These events can result in NMS notification by SNMP traps, a trouble ticket, or they can be included in higher level HFC event correlation.
