AUSPICE INC. RELEASES OPSLOGIC - CMEx 1.0, THE FIRST INTELLIGENT, PROACTIVE MANAGEMENT SOLUTION FOR DOCSIS CABLE BROADBAND SERVICE PROVIDERS
Framingham, MA - May 6, 2000 - Auspice Inc
Auspice Inc., a leading provider of operations management solutions for the Broadband network and Internet-based service providers, and the developer of Auspice TLX, a revolutionary Internet software infrastructure, today announced the introduction of Auspice OpsLogic® Intelligent DOCSIS Cable Modem Exception Monitor (CMEx), the industry's first intelligent DOCSIS cable modem management solution. CMEx becomes part of the Auspice OpsLogic® family of high-value solutions - built on the Auspice TLX platform - focussed on solving specific management needs for rapidly growing broadband and next generation service providers. CMEx offers Cable operators a ready-made, yet highly extensible and automated solution to meet the challenges of managing the fast-growing, operations-intensive multi-service network and cable plant.
CMEx 1.0 provides a highly-scalable, high-performance cable network monitoring solution, custom-tailored for the Multiple Service Operator (MSO), that captures and analyzes key Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and Cable Modem (CM) metrics that adhere to the DOCSIS (Data Over Cable System Interface Specification) standard. These performance metrics are then analyzed against DOCSIS standard and customizable thresholds and are both logged and written to html-based detailed and exception-only reports for viewing from any Web browser, as well as delivered as email notifications. In addition, CMEx 1.0 will discover and analyze the current set of cable modems attached to a specified CMTS and automatically detect if a significant percentage of modems fall offline within a short time period, often indicating a significant service outage has occurred in the cable network. Notification of outages is automatically sent to appropriate personnel, where steps both automated and manual may be taken towards service restoration often before the service subscriber ever knows there is a problem.
Auspice OpsLogic solutions are based upon a new proactive approach to network management, integration, and service availability that eliminate time consuming and labor intensive processes currently used to manage the service provider network and deliver reliable service. Rather than performing repetitive, manual operational processes that are time consuming and prone to human error, Auspice OpsLogic solutions, through Auspice TLX, capture and execute this Operations Logic performed at a scheduled time frame or via intelligent event-based triggers, set internally or via external third-party alarms.
"Cable-based Broadband service providers now have a solution built specifically for them to proactively monitor and manage their cable network", said Don Sefton, Vice President of Sales with Auspice Inc. "CMEx becomes a foundation for managing multiple services over the broadband network. Through Auspice TLX, CMEx can easily be extended by integrating any customer database, plant topology database or map, presenting reports that display an integrated view of the status of the cable network to the cable operator, plant manager, or customer service centers."
Cable broadband service providers have grappled with the operations intensive tasks of monitoring cable network and device status, while also being subject to a reactive mode when problems occur or customers call. Leveraging DOCSIS standards and deployment of DOCSIS cable modems and other devices, CMEx offers the cable broadband provider a proactive approach to problem detection, root-cause analysis and resolution. This significantly reduces customer maintenance costs and improves service availability, resulting in immediate ROI for the cable broadband service provider.
